Canadian Company To Help Rescue Chilean Miners

This is some story.

From The Montreal Gazette:

Precision Drilling Corp. chief executive Kevin Neveu on Thursday confirmed that the company will move its only drilling rig in the South American nation more than 1,000 kilometres to the mine site where 33 miners have been trapped 700 metres underground since early August.

"Our company is not a company that is intended to be in the rescue business," he said in an interview. "But we were well qualified to help out. No question, we want to provide any kind of assistance we can to make sure we do our part to the best of our ability."

The rig began arriving on site Thursday, where it will begin drilling alongside two mining rigs in what Chilean government officials have dubbed "Plan C."

Neveu said the rig, which is capable of drilling to depths of 2,000 metres, had been sitting idle while it was waiting for new contracts. He said he didn't have many details on the rescue operation and the company hadn't even seen a well plan.

  1. A link post with no "original" content? Bret "Ginx" Alan will not be pleased.

  2. That is old news. The rig has performed, the well has been dug and the minors will start coming up today or tomorrow.

  3. Geez, tough crowd.

That's why I waited to post now, Paul. Fresh in the mind.

    Nick, yeah read that.

The way I see it is blogs "link" not because they lack originality (though some clearly do), it's not their aim. It's more of a "values" thing.

For example, Canadian conservative blogs link to American news items less because it's "American" and more because they want to share into the value and belief system.

Personally, I link things I like. It's more to inform. Sometimes it's appreciated and sometimes not - ahem.

I take it Bret doesn't read Instapundit?

    Mind you, I don't either.
