Polygamy As Crime

It's weird but should people be thrown in jail for it?

If it's consensual and everyone involved is happy...

  1. I've said before on my blog that polygamy ought to be legal, though I'm assuming you also consent to women having more than one husband (I wouldn't be okay with just a man being able to take multiple wives).

Isn't it odd how polygamy has been made illegal, and how polygamy is now only practiced in a predatory fashion? The only other parallel I can imagine is homosexuality: homosexuals used to be considered deviants, because it honestly was imprisoned men who were the primarily visible homosexuals (and we all know once you enter prison, you are instantly gay...). Now that this is no longer the view, homosexuals are seen as having frivolous and promiscuous sex lives... but God forbid they marry and that stereotype beput to rest.

We could legalize polygamy while still prosecuting people who practice what is essentially human trafficking in the guise of religion. And really, we are a de facto polygamous society when you consider how many people have children with more than one other person.

  2. Took me a while, and I got side-tracked, but I found my original post from January, here.

  3. Good points on the adultery part. Also, how men go around fathering kids with multiple wives - God knows how many deadbeats are out there. That, I would say, is more detrimental to the "social order" than consenting polygamy.

  4. Gay polygamy. Three hot lesbian wives make an amateur sex tape and put it on the retail market. Just think of the money to be made?
