Cupcakes Are Dangerous

Rules are rules. Wanna bake cupcakes? Fork over the cash for a permit.

All a racket.
I don't believe for one second permits and licenses are there to "protect" us. They're there to serve as a cash cow for the coffers of the organizations and government agencies that create them.

  1. Damn, T.C., you're getting quite libertarian on us (or maybe you always were) but whatever, I like it.

Should have invited you to join SE instead of Bret!

  2. Holy crap, here I thought because you were attracted to my libertarian leanings!

I don't hammer at it but I think I've made it clear over the last couple of years.

While I've always struggled with authority of any kind, I really began questioning things in my last year as a broker when the government decided to step in and pick a fight with one of our clients based on a technicality.

We lost the account and with it the province, in its short term thinking and typical bureaucratic sclerosis, lost an investor who merely shifted his account to Alberta.

We're talking not hundreds of thousands, or even tens of millions. We're talking hundreds of millions of dollars.

We tried to explain this to the government.

    Insert laughter here.

In the end, we all lost.

Ever since then, I've come to realize we don't question the unintended consequences of excessive regulations.

We see it unfolding in Europe, yet, we seem to be following in their footsteps in lockstep.
