How Stupid Is LAPD?

Seriously, it seems to be getting to a point that police brutality is not an exception anymore in the United States.

"The South Bay man claims officers didn’t give him a chance to explain what he was doing before placing him in handcuffs, beating him and using a stun gun to shock him into submission.

The problem began when police reportedly misunderstood Meister’s attempts to speak in sign language as threatening gestures.

Moreover, officers didn’t realize that when they handcuffed Meister, who is “profoundly deaf” and non-verbal, they took away his ability to communicate.

Now, the architect from Manhattan Beach is suing the city of Hawthorne, its police department and several of its officers for what happened that day."

Call me naive, but under no circumstances should these things be happening. I hope he wins and they pay dearly for their actions.

"Police released a statement that said, in part: “Officers make every effort to communicate effectively…In almost all cases, it is the person’s behavior and actions who we contact that dictate police response rather than the communication barriers present. That is certainly the case in this specific matter…”

In other words, it's your fault. Raise a pen to write a note and we're not responsible if we put a bullet in your head. Are you fucking kidding me? Is this actual police policy?

That guy is lucky they didn't kill him because we've seen enough of cops killing innocent people and dogs.

I don't really give a shit about the argument that it's only a few rogues cops committing these crimes. If the majority remain silent and don't rectify the problem- which includes the leadership brass - then they're just as culpable.

What does it take to take a step back and understand when a person has a disability?

And boy, this story lends itself to a lot of possible trumped up charges by the cops in their defense.

Notice the anger in the threads. Now cull all the articles on a daily basis of examples of police using excessive force sometimes leading to death.

Not pretty. I really do hope it's because of more reporting than anything else. Like some claim that the perception of cancer being on the rise is due to humans living longer and more public exposure, maybe, in the police defense, a similar thing is happening.

I really hope.
