Missing The Point

If you're rationalizing the murderous terrorist attack against Charlie Hebdo in Paris with a 'but' and/or 'however', you've lost the plot on what freedom of expression and press entails.

My wife asked harmlessly asked 'did they have to go that far?' and 'is anything sacred anymore?'

To which I responded, aside from it being irrelevant, define what is too far? Some people get offended at the slightest of things. Others have thick skin. Something being sacred doesn't immunize it against criticism.

This is the point of freedom in the West.

Or else, taken to its logical end, you get horrible and disturbing piece like this one titled 'Here Is Why It’s Time To Get Tough On Hate Speech In America' by Tanya Cohen.

If this doesn't send a chill down your spine, then you really are incorrigible. I feel sick just linking to it but we're coming to a point where we have to refute and beat back these people at every turn.

They're dangerous and stand on the opposite side of freedom.

Thankfully the comments are having none of it and really letting the author have it as she deserves.

Easily one of the 'most offensive' things I've read to date.
