I just couldn't let this article in The Guardian by Bill McKibben slide. In it he criticizes Justin's climate system change hypocrisy. In it though, the author reveals his own hypocrisy or at the very least cognitive dissonance.
Let's delve right into it.
"Donald Trump is so spectacularly horrible that it’s hard to look away – especially now that he’s discovered bombs. But precisely because everyone’s staring gape-mouthed in his direction, other world leaders are able to get away with almost anything."
That's some opening. Ta-dah!
We can easily flip this and simply add Obama into it.
As for the bombs, you mean the bombs Obama left behind to use? It remains to be seen if Trump uses more of them than Obama did.
But don't let that fact get in the way of a solid progressive narrative that Obama was a 'great President who inherited and mess and couldn't really do much because of obstructionism' (which really means, when you Sham-Wow it, he was an ineffective pseudo-leader with shallow views incapable of selling his agenda without blaming others for his faults and mistakes). Obama was the poster child for 'The Emperor has no clothes'.
It surprises me how people haven't read through his shtick of carefully crafting a superficial image. There was no substance to his Presidency. There was no true defining moment; a leitmotif redirecting or rekindling the American spirit. Just the extension of the previous administration with extra-primo dose of cynicism and of the political version of 'what, me do?' coyness.
Gape-mouthing stuff indeed.
"And he’s mastered so beautifully the politics of inclusion: compassionate to immigrants, insistent on including women at every level of government. Give him great credit where it’s deserved: in lots of ways he’s the anti-Trump, and it’s no wonder Canadians swooned when he took over."
Who's swooning? Teeny-Boppers? Adults addicted or vulnerable to the cult of the personality?
Whatever. It was plain old syrupy progressive social engineering with little substance. It's one thing to be a negative and repressive having kept back minorities permitting a pervasive pent-up of talent; a collection of unappreciated people waiting yearning and yelping to be unlocked from their cages and unleashed by an enlightened rulers.
It's quite another when it's done for its own sake. "Say, know what I think? I think we need a trans-gendered Muslim-Inuit feminist woman in this spot! Forget pasty white Bob and his pink pipi who deserves it. Stick to the narrative and all will work itself out...somehow. Just place a 'Diversity' and 'Equality' sticker on it and a-waaay we go!"
Because it's....insert the current year.
I see nothing in this world view that advances Western civilization. In fact, it sets it back because it places people in positions they're simply not ready for. This is how you hasten declines in any organization, corporation and yes, civilizations.
You can only get away with putting mediocre people in charge for so long.

Good. I happen to agree with that. And no, it's not a disaster.
Hyperbole is not a good fit for men.
Canada, partly because of our choices in the past, is a semi-diversified economy that relies on its resources. We don't have the same dynamic economy as the United States. As such, playing environmental politics is actually bad for our economy.
"That is to say, Canada, which represents one half of 1% of the planet’s population, is claiming the right to sell the oil that will use up a third of the earth’s remaining carbon budget. Trump is a creep and a danger and unpleasant to look at, but at least he’s not a stunning hypocrite."
Well, here's the thing. Canada has always been a hypocrite on climate change. I don't know why we bother pretending since our fate is tied into resources. Rather, Canada is realistic and got caught up in all this climate change hysteria.
We're also quite the hypocrites on peace. We, historically, sell our fair share of arms to dictators and despicable regimes like Saudi Arabia.

One final note about Trudeau's ridiculous and vapid outtakes on Canadian 'values'.
The Liberals want to install a Federal carbon taxscheme scam imposing it on all provinces regardless of whether it's viable. It's just the 'feel-good' thing to do is all.
My guess is, and I'm pretty comfortable in it given the reservoir of data and evidence we now have regarding government interventionism in the economy and how it skews things, the unintended consequences will not be favourable to the average Canadian - or, ironically, the environment.
The real elephant in the room is the outrageous tax and spend policies of the Trudeau Liberals in a country that's not exactly on solid growth grounds.
